5 Master Edits- Criminal Minds

My first video is an example of parallelism. It is from the beginning of an episode of Criminal Minds. It shows a mother at a community event, screaming for her daughter that has just been kidnapped. Then, the scene switches to the mom still standing in the same spot after the event has ended talking to the FBI. This is an example of parallelism because the setting stays the same, but the edit jumps from one point in time to another. This clip is an example of simultaneity. It shows the characters from the show laying out their plan to find Aimee, the lost daughter, while she is being carried into a room by her kidnapper. This is an example of simultaneity because it shows two different events happening at the same time. This clip is an example of contrast. It shows Aimee curled up alone in her bed while on the other side of the wall, utter chaos is happening. A grandma is beating a child that was trying to talk to the girl. This is contrast because two very different thin...

5 Master Edits

Here is the link to my video:  click here Contrast: My contrast shot shows two very different aspects of my life: school and sports. I took a video of my chemistry textbook and then edited in a clip of my training log for cross country and track to show contrast. Parallelism: My parallelism edit was to show two different points in time: a race that I ran, and then my third year varsity award that I received after that season. Symbolism: My symbolism edit was of me drinking water and then of me washing my hands in the sink. The symbol was water. I got my inspiration for this edit from the video we were supposed to watch. There was a scene of fire and then the sun rising on the horizon. Simultaneity: My simultaneity edit was of my brother playing videos downstairs, and me studying upstairs. I switched back and forth between these events to show that I was studying while my brother was simultaneously playing video games, two very different activities. Leit Motif: My leitmoti...

Week 3 & 4: Camera Angles

Image
I chose to comment on the camera angles used in the popular TV show series "Big Brother" on CBS. I watched the hour long episode that aired on September 4, 2019. I chose to review an episode of Big Brother because it is one of my favorite shows and it uses a wide variety of camera angles to build suspense. The show is very dramatic with lots of twists and surprises, so the directors definitely use the camera angles we learned about to their advantage. This is a high angle shot that was taken at the Veto Picking Ceremony on the show. The Head of Household, the man closest to the camera, would be picking houseguests, on the couch, to play in the Veto competition. In Big Brother, the Veto competition is a huge deal because it can buy you safety in the game. The high angle shot was chosen for this ceremony to get the entire room with all the houseguests in the shot, and to show their facial expressions and reactions. This is a close up shot of the Head of Household pickin...

Week 3 & 4: Commenting on my Peer's Shots

Classmate #1: Chiara Junkroski The first shot I commented on of Chiara's was her dolly shot. It was excellent considering we were unable to use a stabilizer. The setting was very pretty and it gave me the feeling that I was moving closer to the subjects. The second shot I commented on was the extreme close up. Chiara did a great job of finding the right lighting for this shot to bring out the details in Kelly's eye. The shot could have made a movie dramatic. The high angle shot was great as well. It gave the audience a feeling of power because we were "above" the action. The last shot I commented on of Chiara's was her extreme long shot. I especially like this shot because it was taken at the Grand Canyon, the perfect setting for an extreme long shot. I felt like I really got to know the setting. Classmate #2: Renee Listrom The first shot I commented on of Renee's was her extreme long shot. Like Chiara's, I liked that this shot was taken in a setting...
